“They” Don’t Want You to See the World, But We Do!

“I don’t travel because I hate filling visa forms”,

“How do you get the time to go to all these places?”,

“Travelling is expensive, I don’t have money abeg”

“You have plenty money oh, you are always in one country or another”

Do these excuses sound familiar? Beware of these party poopers, they are always there to ruin your travel plans or make you feel guilty for spending “too much” money on a vacation. Yes we all have friends like these….scratch that, most of our friends are like this. LOL. There is more than likely only one or two “Ajala’s” among a group of friends and the others just sit back and live vicariously through you. Anyways this post is not for the party poopers, its for those who genuinely want to see the world but need a little push!

I strongly doubt there is any country in the world with as much visa woes as Nigerians. First of we have to apply for visas to literally everywhere and after this application we get treated “specially” at POE’s. I mean Nigerians have been totally “banned” from travelling to Indonesia except for business, so say goodbye to your Eat. Pray. Love. journey to self discovery. Its Ironic because just a few months ago Indonesia just added more countries to their visa-free list coming to a total of 169 countries i.e 169 countries can visit Indonesia without visas. Look at it this way, there are only 195/6 countries in the entire world! According to www.topbali.com ,  “Countries that are known to have issues with drugs, economic stability, and radicalism are not eligible”, we all know why we probably will not be on that list for a very long time.  Remember our guest nomad feature on Thailand  (you can read here), she described the visa as the hardest visa she has tried to get and the Embassy demands a police report and all sorts of crazy things to be sure you have no drug records. Singapore was visa free for Nigerians till 2008 *cries in Malay*! Truth is, we have a very long way to go and we have to change our national image before we get a free or rather easy pass to see the world.

Anyways, I am not here to discourage you from traveling. I am all for seeing the WORLD! For people who want to kick start traveling, i’ll advice you begin your sojourn with visa free or visa on arrival countries. The green passport is not totally useless so lets forget all these difficult countries and focus on the few that allow Nigerians visa-free entry or visa on arrival. So here is a comprehensive list (which I will try to update from time to time) of countries you can visit with your lovely green passport :).  Happy traveling!
