President Muhammadu Buhari has come under attack for his comment at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London. In his statement, he criticised many Nigerian youths for not willing to do something for themselves because they feel the Nigeria is a country rich in oil.

“About the economy, we have a very young population, our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. This is a very conservative one,” Buhari said.”

“More than 60 per cent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free,”

Many Nigerians are angry with the President for his remarks about the youths and have slammed him for his comment. #LazyNigerianYouths has been trending on twitter since President Buhari made the comments and thousands of twitter users have been using the hashtag to share their hustle/side hustle showing they are not lazy.

President Buhari doing what he knows how to do best.. Disgracing Nigerians since the days of John The Baptist.

This is what you get when you elect someone with a NEPA bill certificate. A mistake that needs to be corrected.

We are not #LazyNigerianYouths

The only way to show your displeasure at an uneducated, ineffectual buffoon calling you #LazyNigerianYouths is at the polls. Globetrotting to embarrass Nigerians MUST end in 2019. #GetYourPVC

The personal assistant to the President, Bashir Ahmad has come out to defend his boss. In his tweet, he claimed the President did not mention that all the youths were lazy but rather was referring to the people who have refused to go to school or work.

OUR THOUGHT

Contrary to the President’s comment, we believe majority of Nigerian youths are very hardworking and enterprising. There are so many young Nigerians making history in and out of the country and we are proud of them.
