Ghana and Barbados on a Mission to Ease Travel Between the 2 Nations
Jun 18th, 2019

Hello Barbados!

A few days ago when the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, welcomed the President of Ghana, Nana Akufu-Addo, we were expecting something great to come out of the meeting and boom…something great came out indeed! The meeting between the 2 leaders took place on the 14th at the Prime Minister’s residence. At the meeting which took over 2 hours, the leaders discussed how they can cooperate and strengthen their relationship in the education, transportation and energy sector.

It’s such a great news to know Barbados and Ghana have agreed to work towards making flights direct. Currently flights from Ghana to Barbados takes 20hours but now travellers will be able to fly directly for JUST 7hours. Isn’t that amazing?

If we can recall, a few weeks ago Barbados dropped visa requirements for 8 African countries; Cameroon, Ethiopia, Liberia, Morocco, Senegal, Rwanda, Burkina Faso and Ghana; which means the citizens of these countries can travel to Barbados visa free! In the words of Senator Dr Jerome Walcott, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade;

“We recognize that Africa, a continent of 54 countries, many of them showing growth rates of five, six, and seven per cent, in terms of Rwanda, it is time for us to look more closely at that continent. We have made a pledge, and we are moving towards establishing a mission in Accra, Ghana before the end of this year,” he said.

If this is not a good news today, then I don’t know what is. As a company which focuses on Green Passport Movement, we think this is amazing. Although Barbados is visa free for Nigerian travellers (with a US visa), travelling through Ghana would be seamless and we are excited about this.

Did I mention that Barbados is a beautiful nation and we might add to our 2020 calendar? Oh yes!

What do you think about this development? Do you think travelling to Ghana before flying out to Barbados is a good idea?
