The government of Egypt has ordered the closure of a Marsa Alam beach near the coast of Red Sea for a week following the attack on a tourist by a shark.
The victim of the attack, a Czech tourist, who was on family vacation was swimming near a town called Marsa Alam was attacked and killed by a shark last Friday. The resort town of Marsa Alam is a place well known for its sandy beach and coral reefs. It attracts many tourist for diving activities.
The Council Chairman of Marsa Alam city, General Atef Wagdy, said as much as diving activities take place on the beach, it is prone to attacks.
“There is no problem in diving around Marsa Alam, but people who swim on the surface in deep waters beyond the coral can be vulnerable to attack”
Before this new attack on the beach, there has been no attack by shark on the Red sea coast since 2015, when a German tourist fell a victim.
