Epkemi Onare Ekhabafe – Our nomad of the week/kindred spirit describes herself as ” an amateur world traveler, travel blogger and travel photographer trapped in the body of a lawyer and labour law researcher” (sounds awfully familiar :)! ) She is a nature lover and will take holidaying in a good old cabin surrounded by trees and mountains over big cities. When planning a vacation, what determines your destination of choice?
I know I am a millionaire but cost almost always determines my destination – Cost of tickets, cost of visa processing, cost of living, cost of posting instagram pictures… cost! cost!! cost!!! I also like to go to places I know locals or at least try and get in touch with locals before I arrive. There is nothing like seeing a city from the eyes of a local. Couch Surfing has been very helpful in this regard.
Finally, I am drawn to nature. So I would rather go to Queenstown than Copenhagen (I apologize Anders, if you ever get to read this. If you don’t, never mind). I want to see raw beauty, water bodies, water falls, climb cliffs and sometimes I pretend to be interested in Old Towns, castles and museums too. (I’m so sorry Janice, but you saw this coming. :p)
What is the one thing you cannot do without when you travel?
Errrm, camera!?! I know I am meant to soak in the scene and all that but after that what next? pictures of course.
Most memorable thing you have done during a holiday.
There is so much memories to choose from but the first that comes to mind was when my friends and I traveled to New Zealand. We rented a car for a day trip to Mount Cook/ Aoraki National Park and did the Mountain hike. I literally almost passed out but the end was worth it. We got to see (and taste) the mount cook glaciers.
Every avid traveler has a travel bucket list. What’s on yours?

What is your favorite travel quote?
“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” – Martin Buber
Where is that ONE place you have to see in your lifetime?
Santorini and Mykonos, Greece … lies! My dream destinations include Kabul, Afghanistan, Tehran, Iran and Petra, Jordan (I would add Islamabad and Peshawar, Pakistan but let’s leave that out in case my mum reads this article).
