Three months ago, the Federal Government through the Minister of Aviation, unveiled the name and logo of the National carrier. At the unveiling event, the Minister announced the date for the commencement of flight operations as December
Early last month, the establishment of the Carrier was put on indefinite suspension as announced by the Minister. Nigerians who were excited for the carrier to start operations were disappointed and doubted if it’ll ever be possible for the nation own a national carrier soon.
However, all hope is not lost on the establishment of the country’s carrier. While receiving Fahad Al Taffaq, the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Nigeria in his office, the Minister said the national carrier will be activated soon.
“The suspended national carrier would be activated as soon as possible, although the December 24th earlier given for its take-off is no longer feasible.”
When the project was suspended initially without any reason, people put the blame on the investors. Minister for Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed, said lack commitment to the project caused the suspension. However, the Minister for Aviation has opened up that the suspension was strategic and not because the investors lack commitments.
As disclosed by the Minister for Aviation at the unveiling event in July, if the project is fully implemented, it will fly 81 routes, (domestic, regional and international). We will be so glad if we can eventually have our carrier and take tourism to another level.
Are you optimistic the National Carrier will be implemented? We’re really hoping the project will work out fine this time.
