Lagos, Nigeria: First Surfing Competition Hosted by GPsurfing School
Feb 17th, 2018

“I discovered Godspower on CNN African Voices and I could not contain my excitement when I watched his interview. He is a man with big dreams and has opened up a surfing school for people interested in surfing to learn. He offers surfing classes at Takwa Bay for N7,000. For more information, contact 07065825570.” – Excerpts from the Alternative Lagos article.

GPsurfing school, run by Godspower, has helped put the city of Lagos on the “surf map”. Both Tarkwa Bay and Lighthouse beach have been described as having two of West Africa’s best waves . Last year, Lagos received Luke Davis and William Aliott, two surf professionals, who came to document and help bring awareness to the area.

“Hopefully we can help bring awareness to the area and give the surfers — and the area — an opportunity it hasn’t yet had.” -South African photographer Alan Van Gysen on surfer.com

THE SURF COMPETITION

The GPsurfing school in collaboration with other brands are hosting a surfing competition at the Tarkwa Bay Beach, on 3rd March, 2018.

The surf competition is a first of its kind in Nigeria and outside the competition, there will be two other events; a Duathlon and Beach flag. The aim of the surf competition is to support the local community and participation is by invite only. However, everyone will be allowed to participate in the Duathlon (*this post will be updated with the registration link soon*). The format of the Duathlon will be a running, swimming and another running leg.

BEACH CLEAN UP

The Eko Charitable foundation will organize a beach clean up along the beach strip and they are looking for donations and volunteers. Get in touch with them via this link if you’ll like to donate.
