Is it not amazing to know camels too swim? We did not know there was a special specie of camels that swim until we watched a video of Kharai camels swimming across the sea. This video popped up on our twitter page and we were flabbergasted.

The Kharai Camels are one of the special breeds of camels found in India and they can only be found around Gujarat’s Bhuj. They adapt well in the extreme weather of Ran of Kachh, a large area of salt marshes where shallow seas and high level of salinity are very common.

Kharai Camel can live in both coastal and dry ecosystems. They grazes on large volumes of saline plant species or mangroves.  To search for food, they swim long distance in the sea to look for grazing areas and this takes them more than 3 km in deep waters. This breed of camels are slightly different from other breeds. They have round back, thin and long legs and small feet.  .

Did you know camels could swim? Would you ever take a camel ride across the sea? We do not think we can do that. Our adventurous minds have not developed to that level. Lol!
