Rhinoceros are one of the animals that are critically endangered in the world. Over the years, poachers have been hunting the rhinos for their horns, drastically reducing their number.

Recently, while transporting some of these animals between national parks in Kenya, seven of the black rhinos died. These rhinos which are critically threatened animals died at Tsavo East National Park.

A wildlife conservationist in Kenya and CEO of the WildlifeDirect, Dr Paula Kahumbu, has described the death of the rhinos as a disaster.

“It’s a disaster – a disaster not just for Kenya, but for the world. These animals have been protected for decades by rangers. So for them to die like this is incredibly alarming. And I’m very surprised we haven’t been told yet what happened.”

Kenyan Wildlife conservative has urged conservationists to save the lives of the remaining black rhinos. Currently, there are less than 5,500 black rhinos in the world and they are all found in Africa.

A major concern for wildlife conservation sector is the death of the last male northern white rhino in March. Since the death, wildlife scientists have been working endlessly to save the specie of rhino by using vitro fertilisation. Hopefully it is successful.
