Ebola Outbreak: Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria Reinforces Screening at Major Airports
Jun 3rd, 2018

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) recently confirmed it will reinforce the screening of air travellers’ health at the airports. The essence of the screening is to prevent the spread of Ebola disease in Nigeria. The exercise is to take place at the 4 busiest airports in the country: Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, and Port Harcourt International Airport, Port Harcourt.

Recently, Federal Executive Council had directed that various preventative measures against Ebola disease should take place across the major and busiest airports in the country. This was after the new outbreak of the disease in Republic of Congo.

A news correspondent from News Agency of Nigeria gathered that thermal scanners have been installed at the airports. Also, the health officials have been provided with handheld scanners to check for abnormal body temperature of travelers coming in and going out of the country.

According to the Deputy General Manager who is also the Head of Aviation Medical Clinics for FAAN, Dr. Adamu Adamu, there is an emergency plan going on to prevent future occurrence of the disease.

”Right now, we have a public health emergency contingency plan at the airport, which we have activated.”

“We are at the alert phase now and we are looking at rise in temperature, travel history, basically, and we have upgraded our sanitation generally at the airport in terms of toilets.”

Prevention is better than cure! We really love the move FAAN has taken in preventing the deadly disease from getting into the country.

While the airport health officials are doing their best, passengers too should stay safe when outside the country.
