The innovation being the first in the western region of Africa is an initiative of the Ghana Immigration Service. The project is a funded project under the country’s ministry of Communications by the World Bank.

At the inauguration of the project, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful described the e-system as a way of meeting the future needs of the country’s Immigration Service.

“The focus of the e-Immigration system was the provision of an end- to-end integration of: border control operations, permit and Visa Management System, business processes including document and record management, web-enabled system”

The e-gates allow travelers pass through with their international passports. This system is an automatic way of controlling the traffic overload for immigration. It will help perform three main services; identification, authentication and verification.

OUR THOUGHT

We think our country, Nigeria should emulate this system. Having e-gates in Nigerian international airports will reduce the time spent with the Immigration Officers due to too many questions being asked and also curb the harassment travelers, especially the females encounter with them.

What do you think about this innovation?
