Cameroonian Cries for Help: English Speaking Region of Cameroon in a State of Unrest
May 7th, 2018

Cameroon is an African country that people refer to as a mini Africa with over 200 groups linguistics. The mini African country is a country with 2 official languages and this makes the citizens proud of their country. The sad thing is that the language difference is one of the major causes of the problem facing the country.

THE OPPRESSION

For a while, the English speaking region of the country have not been having rest due to the oppression by the french speaking people. This great oppression has called the attention of big media and agencies all over the world.

Two days ago, a Cameroonian from the English-speaking region created awareness on the happenings in the country on twitter.

The defeat of the Germans to French and British who were colonizing the Cameroon forced them to hand over their colony to them. The Germans ruled from 1884 to 1916 before the defeat. While the French took a larger part of the colony in the East the British only had about one third in the Western part. This was where the problem of this new Cameroon started from.

The French speaking citizens have not been treating the people in the English region nicely for many years. The English-speaking Cameroonians have been grieved based on the fact that the country deprives them of the necessary advancement they deserve as development, infrastructures etc are largely concentrated on the French-speaking region.

Since the country got independence, they’ve only had 2 presidents with the current President in power for over 42 years.

The young Cameroonian lady has called out to people to intervene so the oppression of the English Cameroonians stop. Too many lives have been lost in the small country already
