We got tagged on a BBC article which stated that the beautiful Bali, Indonesia will be internet-free for 24 hours. Mobile internet will be shut down for 24 hours in celebration of Nyepi (Nyepi literally means a day of silence fasting and meditation). Its a pubic holiday and the day after Nyepi is the Balinese New Year.
The rationale behind this according to the Hinduism Society head Gusti Ngurah Sudiana is that “many Hindu people are addicted to their gadgets and hopefully during Nyepi they can be introspective”. The shut down only applies to Mobile Internet. Hospitals, Police Stations, Airports and other public places will still have functioning wifi.
“Nyepi, known as the Day of Silence, is a day of reflection to mark New Year celebrations on the predominantly Hindu island.
Balinese Hindus observe four “prohibitions” – no fire, no travel, no activity and no entertainment. For some, that means no eating and no talking”. – BBC News.
24 hours without my mobile internet? I guess I will not be going to Bali this Saturday!!!!!!
It may seem impossible but we think everyone needs a digital detox from time to time. 24 hours is an incredibly short period of time. Listen to music, binge watch your favorite shows or start a DIY project! 24 hours will be done before you know it.
