Mar 14th, 2019

The vast land, the mountainous red dunes in the desert, the cold and quaint city it Swakopmund, the blazing sunsets, the delicious foods, the clean cities, the organised communities, the good road network, the beautiful scenery. Yes, welcome to Namibia. Namibia really blew our minds last money and we will definitely say yes to another adventure and to the country.

In this post, we have gathered 5 interesting things you should know about this remarkably beautiful country. Oh Namibia!

THERE ARE MORE OF WHITE VEHICLES AND DRIVING IS ON THE RIGHT

Arriving Windhoek last year, we were welcomed by our driver in a sparkling white mini bus. Right at the airport, we didn’t really notice that white vehicles were a lot until we drove out of the airport. Out of a 100 vehicles (private and commercial), 90% will most be white/grey. This gives the cities really beautiful look.

For someone like us (Nigerian) coming from a county that drives on the left, it was really awkward being on the right side. The feeling was totally different and maybe scary. On our way to Swakopmund from Windhoek, we were on our lane (left course) and we saw an incoming car on the right side of the lane and I was super scared it the guy was about to hit us. Only after he drove past us did I recollect that driving in Namibia is different from where I was coming from.

If you’re not used to driving on the right side, you’ll definitely get confused (like me) when you get to Namibia.

ENGLISH IS WIDELY SPOKEN

A large percentage of hpoint e country’s population speak and understand English. So toh do not have to worry about looking around for an English-speaking guide or a translator. You’ll definitely get by with English.

THERE IS A POINT WHERE THE DESERT MEETS THE SEA

Namibia is one of the countries that has a point where the desert meets the sea. This view is so amazing to see. An aerial view of this point will give you a clearer and wider picture. It’s AMAZING!

When we were in the desert, we were seeing this point partly but we never imagined it’ll even be better seeing from up. Skydiving gave all the whole view.

NAMIBIA DOLLAR IS EQUIVALENT TO SOUTH AFRICAN RAND

The Namibian Dollar is equivalent to the South African Rand. As a matter of fact, South African Rand is widely accepted in Namibia.

If you have too many changes from your trip to South Africa big don’t know how to spend them, don’t worry! Whenever you are in Namibia, you can spend them.

SWAKOPMUND IS FULL OF ACTIVITIES

The country may be vast and distance to some places may be far; but there are a lot to do there, especially as an adventurous person. As an adrenaline junkie looking for activities to try out, then Swakopmund is a city to visit. From skydiving and overlooking Swakopmund to sandboarding and Quadbiking in the Namib desert and many more, it’s no doubt a sport heaven!

On our last trip to Namibia, we learnt some lessons which we’d want you to also learn from. When planning your trip there, you should take note of the lessons so you have a seamless experience.
