Sep 3rd, 2018

Sometime in June, Brazil celebrated the 200th anniversary of the National museum which houses 20 million artifacts. Today, it is sad to record the great loss of the country as fire engulfs the old building yesterday evening.

Although no one has been able to get the source of the wild fire, but it’s been said that no body was involved in the fire.

The building was formerly the palace to the Portuguese royal family and was founded in 1818 but was first used as a museum in 1892. In America, it is one of the largest museums which had a lot of priceless artifacts from many parts of the world.

In a statement by the President of Brazil, President Michel Temer, expressed his sadness over the loss of the country’s treasure.

“a sad day for all Brazilians. Two hundred years of work, investigation and knowledge have been lost. The loss of the collection of the National Museum is incalculable.”

One of the directors of the museum, Cristiana Serejo, has also described the sad incident as an incalculable loss.

“It was the biggest natural history museum in Latin America. We have invaluable collections. Collections that are over 100 years old,”

However, Luiz Fernando Dias Duarte, while speaking with Brazil’s Globo News, attributed the fire incident to inadequate maintenance.

“We fought years ago, in different governments, to obtain resources to adequately preserve everything that was destroyed today We never had adequate support.”

The Mayor of Rio, however, has called on everyone in the country to join hands to rebuild their history.
