Federal Government of Nigeria Extends Validity of Nigerian Passport to 10 Years

Great news for Nigerian travellers. The Nigerian passport now has longer validity period.

Yesterday, the Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, under the directive of President Muhammad Buhari revealed at the Ikoyi Passport Office that the Nigerian passport will be valid for 10 years.

The aim of extending the validity  period is to ease the stress of renewing the passport. Although, the cost of getting the new passport will be more.

“People will pay more if they can pay more and get the booklets quickly, it’s good with improved security for 10 years validity.

The CG of NIS added that the quality and security of the booklets will come  with improvement.

“You can’t keep documents for 10 years without seeing decreased values in them, so we are improving the security features which would raise the standards of the passports.

And we will ensure it is done before the end of this year because the booklet has to change,”

With this new development, the longer validity will save traveler the stress of renewing every 5 years.
