Ebola Outbreak: Democratic Republic of Congo Declares Outbreak Is Over

The Ministry of Health in Democratic Republic of Congo has declared Ebola outbreak is over. The Minister for Health, Dr. Oly Ilunga Kalenga announced the news after getting confirmation from World Health Organisation, WHO.

Few hours after the ninth outbreak of Ebola in Congo,WHO released funds and activated an emergency system to control the spread of the disease in the country.

The Director General of World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, praised DRC for the swift response and support.

“The outbreak was contained due to the tireless efforts of local teams, the support of partners, the generosity of donors, and the effective leadership of the ministry of health. That kind of leadership, allied with strong collaboration between partners, saves lives.”

The government of Congo through the Minister for Health, has described the end of Ebola outbreak as a remarkable success.

Quick intervention and support from the government and health organisations prevented the disease from spreading.
